Ecuador & the Galapagos FAQ

Q1Will I require a visitor's Visa for Ecuador?

Ecuador tourist visa is not required for citizens of Canada for a stay up to 90 days. Please ensure your Canadian passports are valid 6 months beyond the date of return. You may contact the Embassy or Consulate of Ecuador for more information.

Q2When is the best time to visit Ecuador & the Galapagos?

If you like lying on beaches, then the rainy season from December to May is the best time to visit Ecuador. On the coast, the dry season runs from late May and June to November and brings cooler temperatures.

Q3Is it appropriate to tip in Ecuador? If so, how much?

It is customary in Latin America to offer a small tip for exceptional service. Tipping amounts vary widely, though typically US$4-10 per day for your guide and US$1-3 per day for your driver is appropriate.

Q4Can I charge my cell phone or laptop in a standard outlet?

Ecuador uses 110 volt, 60 cycle electricity, same as the US. Plugs are typically the 2 pronged flat type so North American travelers will not typically need a converter or adapter.

You should avoid fruits that you cannot peel yourself, ice in beverages, and undercooked food. It is also not recommended that you eat food from food stalls located in the streets.
Please do not drink tap water. Bottled mineral water should be your only source of water.
Always remember: boil it, peel it, cook it, or leave it.
